Summer Youth Science Fellowship Program

The Cancer Research Institute (CRI) at UCI sponsors a summer program for high school students to immerse themselves in laboratory-based cancer research. Each year we are excited to host ~20 high school students for a five-week immersive journey that will help them explore what it takes to be a researcher, introduces them to leaders in the field, give new insights into the latest research trends, and connects them with peers across OC, different researchers and mentors.  Most of the 30 hours per week will be spent learning and training in a single lab under an assigned mentor(s). Each YSFP fellows goes into a different lab. These mentored experiences are supplemented by didactic lectures, cohort reflections, and social activities. The experience culminates with a research symposium for students to present their work to faculty, students, and the community.

CRI Certificate Program

The CRI Certificate Program Is a program that requires attending 4 out of 6 Conquering Cancer Seminars and completing a post-seminar survey. The goal of this program is to offer in-person interactions between high schools students and the researchers of UC Irvine. Anyone over 14 can participate. There is no application process. Seminars are held January, March, May, September, October, and November.

More Summer STEM Opportunities at UCI

The YSFP program is one-of-a-kind and very competitive. We get ~150 applications a year and can only accept ~20 students. While you are applying for the YSPF, we encourage all STEM interested high school students to also look and apply to some of these other amazing STEM programs offered by other UCI departments. Some of them have different eligibility than the YSFP so please keep that in mind.
